Its been a while since I posted over here at oh.mg and that’s OK since I am genuinely a tiny bit busy. Wild how I went from burnt out and over it at the end of 2022, to desperately poor in 2023, then epically busy in 2024.

Today I’m like, I should really exit the grind set mindset and just vibe. Anyways, I’ve created a new company logo for my project and I’m writing the copy on the website I barely touch

Got no brainz, just brain dead

This is the only problem working five days a week, eight hours a day – no room for creativity. I find myself at the end of the day just too brain dead to make magic with code, write a blog post, or just do something stupid with a server.

I think the closest thing I’ve done was install an opt-out script for Matomo, which if you don’t want to be a part of my stats and for some reason don’t have Do Not Track set in your browser. You can deal with that in the Mentions Légales.

Other than that, I had a laugh at the LR for collapsing in on itself because that’s what the right are good at.

If you’re not in to French politics, you should get into it. The conservative party leader has been thrown out, but not before locking himself in the office and screaming that he’s not fired after he got fired.

Sunday Not So Funday

Monday is my new reality so everything else needs to be relegated off to days off and trying to muster the energy after getting home between 19h-20h on Weekdays. The only thing I miss about being Funemployed is the time to focus on my own activities and not that of chasing funding to focus on my activities.

I’m still checking up on the mmn.ca domain and quite frankly I’m not waiting for CIRA to get on with things in case they decide to piss through my money and delete this domain again.

Two Posts in One Day ?!

I know I know, this really could have been a toot, but I’m so excited about the minor effort I put into this.

First thing I did was get around to fixing some of the redirect issues on oh.mg, you see the site has bounced around a couple times and with the host in the UK things were good.

As a part of being an idiot, I moved it off to a self-hosted server, but what I didn’t realise is that the UK host was being a bit too strict with bot blocking. Unfortunately it blocked the Internet Archive

Going Back to Ye Olde Days

You’ll probably notice after changing domains not that long ago, I’ve gone and done it again. I’d like to pretend that my constant need to do something isn’t responsible for this, but this one time I’m going to admit nostalgia probably had something to do with it.

You see all this time of chasing the dragon, I’ve had mmn.on.ca silently being brought along for a 27 year ride of existence. Since then I’ve always had my eye on the prize, and the prize was the top .ca version of this domain.

I think that going through the three to four month process to kick this whole thing off (even though I’m back to square one), then spinning up a server to host this WordPress site on my own, and a bunch of other small related projects sparked off the whole “it’s been here all this time”.

To start off, this is the first post I’m mirroring on the newly refreshed Plume instance on u.sus.fr. There was a long tale that went behind this, some lolz behind the scenes, usual kind of stuff.

Anyways, why we’re here, as it has been a while since I’ve last updated, I figured I’d confirm that I continue to exist. I think I caught something from somewhere as this week I’ve basically been on my back feeling like death and not just because of the great times funemployment provide. One of the risks of existing outside in society.

I have some other news which isn’t yet confirmed, I’m not banking on it until the ink is dry, so I’m not going to mention it. Just keep in mind that there are non-depressive things happening in silence behind the screen here.

One big thing is the fucking Impôts, so as I very much suspected they had gone insane on my tax rate. I basically paid my taxes by February in 2023 and since then they’ve been creaming far too much off of me. There is absolutely zero irony to the fact that this shit government has intentionally been making me starve while threatening me for 600€ of money they’ve had in their coffers all along.

I won’t see this refund until August if I remember correctly and what a fucking joke this is as because “this is not how the system works”, they’re making me pay 90€ a month until I get my refund to clear the rest of the debt off. This was the lowest amount they could offer, because also fuck you.

I’m sure I had something else to mention but I’m in that awake but very tired zone, so you get what you get.

OH.KE SUS – A New Plume Instance

Ever since the loss of blog.sus.fr from a fan issue, then fedi.paris because I just didn’t have the money to renew it (and netim demanded 70€ to consider renewing it and fuck that), I’ve been lost in the fediverse.

Well not really, I know what I’m doing here with OH.MG but it’s more of the I want to play with this medium and I like Plume. I started up a new VPS to properly install Plume using ProgreSQL so it didn’t have the same problems like that time I used SQLite3, then announced proudly on fedi.paris that it was alive again.

Until it wasn’t. Oops. Anyways I did a few thoughts, started to decide on a vibe, and I still have oh.ke kicking around and figured why not. Ever since that decision I’ve been haunted with maybe I should have used ec.je or ohno.es, better yet a sus.fr subdomain but it is what it is.

Get Fucked Storj

I got an email from Storj, the object storage system I’ve been using and worse, recommending, since 2021. My account is so old school it got grandfathered in when they deployed new plans. That was the past though, Storj emailed me this on the 8th of March :

Well no dice, whatever, at least I had time to add a payment method by the 1st to start paying cents that I certainly hope Stripe will absolutely drain in fees. Except, no, I didn’t you know what is missing from any of those emails ? If you lack a payment method attached to your account THIS VERY MOMENT your account (even with the coupon that is very much still active and valid TODAY) will be heavily limited and it will absolutely break EVERYTHING silently.

I can accept less than 30 days notice when the end cost is almost nothing, I can accept being fobbed off, what I can’t tolerate is not being told you just fucked my account and that 12 days later I’d have to be fixing all the fucked uploads on four different WP sites at 4h in the god damn morning.

Regurgatated Content – iCloud

To be able to encrypt my iCloud drive I had to delete my old Macbook that can’t update to Big Sur because MacOS already takes 95% of the drive space, I had to move it to another iCunt account. Can I share a folder between the two ? No, just crash

The Eternal Struggle to Sleep Right 😴

I have been stuggling a while with having a sleep pattern that didn’t have me sleeping all day long but also gave me a good exposure to the “quiet time” of the morning. At one point I managed to get something that I fell asleep in the evening at a normal-ish time and then wake up around 4h. It did vary slightly a couple times but it worked.

As far as sleeping patterns go, this isn’t as bad as it could be. Technical success ?

But as you can see from the top post, things are starting to destablise. My ideal range is around 21h-22h to about 5h, that gives me a couple good hours in the morning and since I have no social life to speak of with a life that depends on treking around first thing in the morning to get food, it works.

I’m hoping that this will be a short burst of waking up late, but from previous attempts I know it’s probably a very bad sign that things will just go wrong, brought on by yet another ghosting for yet another job no matter how many times I cross the street (it’s in the thousands right now).

My day in the fediverse

Well it has indeed been a day, but here we are at the end of it (I hope). I think it has been the first real day in a long time that I’ve actually felt like I completed a thing.

So far I’ve been exploring the greatness that is brid.gy and got the glorious oh.mg on to the fediverse without getting shook down by Jetpack. I have to admit it took a bit of time to really understand what I was doing, I had a punt at brid.gy before but didn’t quite get it.

I also tried to get Known setup again on oh.mg, but I had some problems doing that with my webhost. There was an error with getting the database setup and since search engines are just AI noise I couldn’t get a coherent answer to rework the sql file to make it happen.

I decided I’d go extra and for shits and giggles use Bunny.net💰 to speed up Ouvaton a bit and try things there, it worked pretty well after diddling with the cache settings. That was my only complaint with them, is that sometimes things could be quite slow, where as HostMaria is quite well setup.

The other thing is that Ouvaton struggles a bit with SSL certs if the domain isn’t hosted on their DNS, so Bunny gets that problem sorted. With that I was able to set up OH.MG Auntie Social and OH.MG Réseau Anti-Social which I’ve been testing randomly for most of the day.

In between that I had some WordPress woes and let somebody know that scammers were hitting Tumblr with their photos and impersonating them.

Somebody is trying to scam Tumblr users by lifting IG hot boys and impersonating them. Epic fail though because this is Tumblr and the amount of credited boy tiddies that are on there, means we know where the genuine account is

Multi-language websites and how they destroy your soul

As I’m working more on the oh.mg experience and fumbling my way through life, I’m discovering some of the quirks of WordPress and inter plugin shitfuckery.

Namely, posts that are translated to French or Catalan have an effect on the LiveJournal reposter does it’s thing. It would seem that if a post has a translated version it updates LiveJournal with the last one sent, problematically, if I set the translation to not update LiveJournal it will then wipe the original (English) version from LJ.

While not a huge problem considering that LiveJournal is subject to Russian law and thus allows for bullshit like this to happen

Will Somebody Think of the Landlords

The CBC for some unknown reason decided that they’d make a highly biased piece for us to pitty the poor landlords selling their rental properties, upheaving the lives of their tenants, and throwing them in to a brutal rental market in Toronto, and then get angry that the tenants demand financial compensation because how dare they have rights.

There are a lot of tired landlord quotes in this piece but the underlying truth is that these people are leeching off of the salaries and lives of others as “an investment”, then when its time for them to make a load of money from the tenant who has been paying their mortgage and hoof them out in to the street, start crying when concequences hit.

Their “small” landords are also rather interesting, the teacher who has a flat on Queen West is no doubt up to make a fucking bank off of that. The area is ultra premium price, so yeah she can afford to compensate the tenant for selling their home right under their feet.

They tried to frame the tenant organisation in a negative light, and honestly, in this whole sham of a landlord wank video he’s the only one who doesn’t come off as an asshole.

I’d like to say enjoy, but you’re not going to like this video much. It’s also available via Invidious too should you wish to let the CBC take an L on the ad rev for this one.

Rêves anticapitalistes – Des corps à louer

Je commence à faire des rêves lucides assez fous ces derniers temps et ils sont tous assez anticapitalistes, parce que le capitalisme et la classe des milliardaires devraient imploser dans la mer. Pour tout vous dire, j’ai demandé à ChatGPT de développer tout ce rêve, je me suis réveillé, je me suis jeté sur mon ordinateur portable, hébété, et j’ai écrit ceci pendant que j’étais encore capable de m’en souvenir.

L’industrie du tourisme est basée sur l’emprunt de votre corps, il y a des « vitrines » dans les rues où des personnes pauvres s’exposent pour être choisies en ligne afin que les personnes riches n’aient pas à passer du temps dans les avions. Nous suivons deux frères jumeaux qui doivent vivre avec les conséquences de cette industrie du tourisme, ils sont essentiellement utilisés comme prostitués et refusent d’être disponibles le vendredi ou le samedi parce que c’est là que les riches font le pire.

Leur ami visite les bureaux de la société et sent que quelque chose ne tourne pas rond lorsqu’il parle à un handler (les handler sont connus sous le nom de Michael Jackson). Il tente de s’introduire dans les bureaux après avoir trouvé un grand récipient de la taille d’une jarre contenant du sang, inhabituel pour des tests de routine, et surprend deux médecins en train de discuter de leur prochaine méthode pour gagner des billions de dollars.

Je n’ai pas toujours beaucoup de temps pour me souvenir de mes rêves et honnêtement, c’est vraiment le plus proche que nous aurons jamais. Certains rêves sont affectés par le fait de laisser la télévision allumée et de s’endormir sur le canap’, et c’est là que je soupçonne la référence à Michael Jackson, car j’ai un documentaire sur lui dans ma liste à regarder plus tard sur YouTube.

Dans un futur pas si lointain, l’industrie du tourisme a pris une tournure particulière, les gens louant leur corps pour la commodité des riches. Des vitrines parsèment les rues, présentant la vie de ceux qui sont prêts à prêter leur corps pour un certain prix. Les pauvres se retrouvaient souvent dans ces vitrines, espérant avoir une chance d’échapper à leur dure réalité, tandis que les riches pouvaient découvrir des lieux exotiques sans quitter le confort de leur maison. C’était une activité controversée mais en plein essor.

Les jumeaux Rutherford, Adam et Alex, sont pris dans les filets de cette industrie à l’éthique douteuse. Leur vie est devenue une marchandise lorsqu’ils ont permis à des étrangers d’habiter leur corps, leur identité étant temporairement oubliée au cours de ces expériences d’emprunt. Les vendredis et samedis, cependant, leur étaient interdits, car c’était les jours où la riche clientèle avait tendance à s’adonner à ses désirs les plus sombres.

Le récit se déroule à travers l’objectif de ces jumeaux, leurs luttes et le lourd tribut que cette forme particulière de tourisme fait peser sur leur bien-être. Chaque expérience d’emprunt laisse une cicatrice sur leurs âmes, alors qu’ils naviguent sur les lignes floues entre leurs propres identités et les vies d’emprunt qu’ils mènent.

Pendant ce temps, leur ami d’enfance, Jordan, sent que quelque chose ne tourne pas rond dans l’industrie. Sa curiosité le pousse à visiter les bureaux de l’entreprise, un bâtiment apparemment inoffensif mais à la façade professionnelle. Il s’entretient avec un handler, connu dans le secteur sous le nom de « Michael Jacksons », et au cours de la conversation, il décèle un courant sous-jacent troublant. L’air est lourd de secret et de malaise.

En explorant plus avant, Jordan tombe sur une découverte qui lui donne des frissons : un récipient de la taille d’un bocal rempli de sang, une substance qui va bien au-delà des tests de routine auxquels il s’attendait. Troublé, il écoute une conversation entre deux médecins qui discutent d’un plan diabolique visant à gagner des billions de dollars. Les jumeaux et d’innombrables autres personnes sont les pions d’un grand projet qui dépasse de loin les limites de leur conscience.

Déterminé à dévoiler la vérité, Jordan prend les choses en main. Alors qu’il s’enfonce dans la conspiration, les jumeaux Rutherford sont confrontés à un dilemme moral : continuer leur vie en tant que récipients pour les privilégiés ou joindre leurs forces à celles de Jordan pour exposer les dessous sombres de l’industrie du tourisme. L’histoire se déroule, tissant les fils de l’identité, de l’exploitation et des conséquences d’un jeu avec des âmes empruntées.

Tandis que les jumeaux Rutherford sont aux prises avec les dilemmes moraux liés à leur choix de vie, Jordan s’enfonce dans les sombres secrets de l’industrie du tourisme. Il découvre un laboratoire caché dans les bureaux de l’entreprise où le sang prélevé sur les âmes empruntées est utilisé pour des expériences bien plus sinistres que quiconque n’aurait pu l’imaginer.

Les médecins, animés par un désir tordu de pouvoir et de richesse, ont mis au point une méthode pour extraire non seulement les expériences, mais aussi l’essence de l’âme d’une personne. Ils prévoient de créer un marché pour ces essences extraites, permettant aux riches de consommer le cœur même de l’être de quelqu’un d’autre, croyant que cela leur donnerait des connaissances uniques et inégalées.

Horrifié par cette révélation, Jordan décide de demander l’aide d’un groupe de résistance clandestin chargé de dénoncer les pratiques corrompues de l’industrie du tourisme. Le groupe, connu sous le nom de « The Reclaimers », se spécialise dans la révélation de la vérité cachée derrière la façade d’entreprises apparemment inoffensives.

Alors que Jordan et les Reclaimers élaborent un plan pour dénoncer les activités néfastes de l’entreprise, les jumeaux Rutherford, Adam et Alex, sont aux prises avec leur propre conflit interne. Le lien entre les frères se renforce lorsqu’ils décident d’utiliser leur position unique pour recueillir des preuves de l’intérieur. Ils documentent soigneusement les expériences de ceux qui habitent leurs corps, capturant le poids émotionnel sur les âmes empruntées et sur eux-mêmes.

Un vendredi soir, les jumelles sont approchées par un client particulièrement riche, un individu très en vue à la sombre réputation. Déterminées à dénoncer la corruption de l’industrie, elles acceptent la transaction mais enregistrent secrètement chaque détail. Alors que l’âme empruntée fait l’expérience de la débauche et de l’excès des désirs du riche client, les jumeaux rassemblent des preuves irréfutables.

Simultanément, Jordan et The Reclaimers mettent en œuvre leur plan d’infiltration de l’ordinateur central de la société et de divulgation des preuves au public. La révélation fait l’effet d’une onde de choc dans la société, suscitant l’indignation générale et des demandes de justice.

Le chaos qui s’ensuit oblige la société à cesser ses activités et les jumeaux Rutherford, désormais libérés de leur rôle d’exploiteurs, s’associent à Jordan et aux Reclaimers pour démanteler le système corrompu. Le trio devient le visage d’un mouvement prônant des pratiques touristiques éthiques, qui aboutit finalement à des réformes et à des réglementations visant à protéger les droits et la dignité des personnes concernées.

Lorsque la poussière retombe, les jumeaux Rutherford trouvent du réconfort en aidant à reconstruire la vie de ceux qui ont été touchés par l’industrie. Jordan, salué comme un héros, poursuit sa lutte contre la corruption, déterminé à faire en sorte que les âmes empruntées ne soient plus jamais soumises à une exploitation aussi odieuse.

How my Mastodon break went and what is the outcome

A couple weeks back I decided to figure out how I was going to exist in the fediverse as my previous setup was to write to my micro.blog and have that repost it over to Mastodon. micro.blog also has fediverse worked in to their own product, so I figured I’d try it.

I haven’t really got around to doing a recap about it and honestly it is something I want to do as I’m sure other people have a similar question, as we all know from trying to find a solution online, finding the first part of a question that is very close to yours and then getting the comment “fixed” leaving you no better than when you started, is not ideal.

I don’t want to be that guy, so here we are. My initial discovery was pretty shortly described by this post and really in brief, this meme

The good I found with micro.blog is being able to create and interact with things I’d normally do between Pixelfed and Mastodon, also the ability to use filters to put things in to categories automatically when posting is great, and it being able to be displayed on a simple site that mixes everything is great. Their own apps also do the job perfectly.

I did consider, briefly, using micro.blog instead of WordPress as it is more robust, does everything I desire, and you can decide if you want to do a blog post or just say a piece without all the extra effort needed in WordPress (I covered this in my blog post here). My only real problem with micro.blog is if I wanted to do the things I have on this site, it would be nigh on impossible if not difficult.

That’s not to lay blame at their platform, this is more of my brain wanting to do absolutely everything at once which isn’t the role of micro.blog (it could also be said the same for the fediverse).

On the other hand, micro.blog also goes for the simplistic side of things and interacting with the fediverse can be weird as a result – you can’t view boosts and you see a lot of replies in your feed. With micro.blog’s concept mainly being discussion and interaction, this makes sense, but I’m really not that interested in having all of that in my face without first seeing the starting post, then deciding I want to get involved.

In the end micro.blog is going to be a tool that I use as a part of a larger ecosystem and this means I need to now re-focus back on creating my dreams with WordPress. I can say for certaintly that AcitivityPub and IndieWeb are a no go with my WordPress install, and that’s not for any negative reason to those plugins and projects. It is entirely a technical thing with my webhost and how they mitigate security threats and handle their CDNs.

I find with this webhost, so far I’ve had an amazing experience with WordPress, and because of that I’ve not been quick to give up on it. Therefore changing hosts is not in my future, cost wise 20 quid for a year is affordable, the space and bandwidth included is more than enough. The person who runs it is also very open to discussion, even though it is a re-sold service, he’s willing to make changes, increase limits, and generally is enthusiastic to offer a good service even if it isn’t a thing he can do today, it may be a thing he does much later down the line (and is clear with the expectations).

So where does this leave me ? Well I can certainly work my way around a PHP script but I’m not exactly good enough to be able to write my own, so I need to find a way to use oh.mg as a core to then re-post my content out towards the networks.

The decision I’ve taken is for now to use micro.blog as my main social media, let it repost to Bluesky and Nostr and with my Mastodon account mainly use that to interact with the fediverse and post my medium to long form stuff from oh.mg, and maybe at some point in the future feed in from micro.blog for the short form.

My overall vision for my social media interaction to lead back to something I own with my own little fingers and use the platforms to get that done. The workaround to achieve this I have right now is use Jetpack to post to Mastodon and Tumblr (until I run out of free shares), micro.blog to repost feeds from this site to BlueSky and Nostr, and reposting to ~~Threads~~ Threats and Cohost by hand.

Fuck you 2023

I’m sure I could write some fluffy end of year shit, but honestly 2023 fucking sucks and 2024 looks like it’ll be equally as shit.

Even though I’ve scheduled this post for 1 Jan 2024 at 0h it is basically just being ironic and you’ll have to accept that. If I manage to get a job before I go homeless in 355 days when my chômage stops I’ll start writing happy shit again.

I thought I also managed to get a hold of my sleeping patterns today, I woke up early and everything was fine until I passed out a few hours later and woke up at 14h again, so back to zero and trying to fix that again.

Over the past few days I’ve really struggled to be able to think, which isn’t great, not sure if this is existential dread, social isolation, or just fucked up sleep. Anyways it needs to pass, my ability to think, although haunted by capitalism’s finest arseholes, is still something I didn’t expect it to steal from me but here we are.

Other than that, I’ve still got work to do on oh.mg and that is a bit hard when brain work bad.

I’ve also finished my week of switching to micro.blog from Mastodon and I think I’ll be using more Mastodon over Micro.blog, the micro.blog experience isn’t amazing but it does have some positives so it’ll be a case of balancing. Still not exactly sure how I’m going to go about posting since I mainly do my status updates on micro.blog which then reposts over to Mastodon, but if you’re following both accounts it does duplicate entries, but that is a problem for another time.

That’s all I can brain for now

Sanco Unit B1

When I created this post earlier this morning, I had a whole thing to write but then I fell asleep and forgot all about it. I guess it was relating to this

Today’s Limited Success™ was using the server I set up with Proton Bridge for WordPress to use so that emails can be PGP encrypted in transit. Any particular need, probably not, but you never know

and now that I write this, I remember, where I was going with this.

Because oh.mg mail server is something that should always be checked and that it’s not been that long since I implemented SpamExperts to deal with it, I’m always checking the logs at SpamExperts to make sure that between them, the hopes and dreams that is Joshua, and not production ready (allegedly) WildDuck, one needs to just verify things occasionally.

In one of those runs I found a spam emailer sending emails to sanco-unit-b1 and I thought, what a cool name, googled it and it might be a forklift so not sure why they thought they’d try that but good effort.

Which got me thinking, that is like a cool name for something, then I put that all to one side and got on with my life.

While I was walking up to the supermarket as I always do, I noticed that it was almost impossible to get my email, which would indicate that my ADSL line was on the slowdown and my connection was switching back on to 4G. The issue with this is that my IP address is bound to the ADSL side of the connection, so if that goes then although I still have internet it means that nothing can communicate inwards.

The main issue here is that I send a few transactional mails through my own infra and that is not a great thing to do when the connection can be a tiny bit unreliable like that. So I’m looking at a solution, that solution for now is using the mail server on my Proton experiment to front it and before I properly set it up to relay out oh.mg mails, I decided to fling it through my Proton account, doing that I created an email address on sus.fr and because I’m edgy, I used sanco-unit-b1 😅
